Every now and then, something comes along that's totally different. Something that sounds nothing like anything I've heard before. Janka Nabay definitely falls into that category. Janka Nabay is the self-proclaimed father of Bubu music in Sierra Leone. Bubu music has its roots in Timini Muslim feasts that Janka attended as a young boy. He is the first to modernize the music employing electronic keyboards, carburetor pipes and bamboo shoots. He creates an underproduced, almost amateur feeling, trance-like sound that is totally unique. Check him out on Itunes, or order the 12-inch EP from True Panther records.
